E for Education

“One of the goals of education is to teach that life is beautiful!” – Maslow, Abraham Harold.

With education we create personalities, then a community. Educated people can guarantee our future and be the big movers of healthy community. That is why “Sewing Hope for Armenia” helps sisters get an education and learn the craft of sewing, showing them the way to achieve their goals and ensuring the sustainability of their future and that of their children.

Women as well as men have the power of intelligence. We know many men who have invented new products or theories or made discoveries, but history know also women who are important figures in science too. Among the many talented women, we want to highlight Ālenush Teriān, who was an Iranian-Armenian astronomer and physicist and is called ‘Mother of Modern Iranian Astronomy’.

Alenush began her career in the physics laboratory of University of Tehran and was elected the chief of laboratory operations in the same year. Later she obtained her doctorate in atmospheric physics from Sorbonne University. Then she retured to Iran and became assistant professor in thermodynamics at University of Tehran. Later she worked in solar physics in the West Germany for four months and was awarded by the German government to University of Tehran. In 1964 Teriān became the first female professor of physics in Iran. But her scientific career was rising. After 5 years she was elected chief of the solar physics studies at Tehran University and began to work in the solar observatory, of which she was one of the founders.

This kind of stories inspire us and show that “Sewing Hope for Armenia’s” values are very important. We value education and we don’t just provide education in the form of sewing, but also provide education to their sons and daughters to have a healthy community tomorrow and pride in their parents.
