History SHA: How it started

Armenian history proves the strength and powerful spirit of Armenian women. Moving into each new century, the Armenian people have always faced new difficulties, and the unity and dedication of the families, the small units of the country, to their relatives and the state have always been the most important cornerstones that have helped the Armenian people to continue to grow, flourish and build even in the most difficult situations.

The role of the woman in preserving the culture of the family, and therefore of the country, has always been emphasized and is still rooted in the foundation of every Armenian family.

Women create, and preserve. Women unite, care and dedicate themselves. Women also surprise by showing strength, courage and spirit in the most difficult situations, they have a spirit of a warrior: ready to face, overcome, and fight։ for her family, country, people and culture.

At the basis of «Sewing Hope for Armenia» are the various historical events that prove the power of Armenian women. These stories have reached us through historians, gusans and stories been told from generation to generation. Among those stories are the stories of every woman of SHA, who are about the initiative of a woman in modern times, about unbeing in the clutches of despair and fighting spirit.

In the 4th century, Queen Parandzem takes the role of the ruler and faces the threat of Persian invasion. During the Genocide, 2 sisters carried the 28 kg manuscript of the thick book “Msho Charyntir” divided into 2 parts on their backs in order to save the Armenian culture. Thousands of mothers save their family, heritage and culture, about which you can hear many stories in every Armenian family. And in 2020, after the second Artsakh war, the women of many families lost their husbands, brothers and sons, but found the strength to create and build conditions in order to maintain cohesion and family warmth.

SHA came to unite and lend a helping hand to Armenian women who do not give up in hardships and continue to fight, build and create. After providing many one-time humanitarian helps, we realized that Armenians need a long-term sustainable program, because the wounds of the war are still fresh, and the help is needed all the time and continuously.

Now «Sewing Hope for Armenia» gives more than 10 women the opportunity to learn a profession, earn a decent living, prove the resilience of the Armenian woman’s spirit and be among the strong women of Armenian history.
